The Strindberg Project
I, Larry Carr and his wife Kay
In collaboration with playwright Larry Carr, works by the Swedish dramatist August Strindberg are being translated. We make new translations of his more known plays, as well as those that have never before been translated. We are also exploring the possibility of adapting some of his short stories to the stage.
Plays finished are: Playing With Fire: A comedy in one act, and
Mr. Bengt's Wife: A Dramatic Comedy in five acts.
Mr. Bengts wife premiered as a reading, produced and performed by the Railroad Theater Company in Newburgh in August 27 2011. In September 2013, it was produced by the Strindberg Repertory Company and had its English Speaking premier at the Gene Frankel Theater.
Playing with Fire was produced by SUNY Orange at The Orange Hall Theater in November 2014.
In the works are: The Secret of the Guild: A comedy in four acts, and A half Sheet of Paper: A short story.
Also a re-translation of Mr. Bengt's Wife back into Swedish.

"...the best short play festival they've ever seen."
"...the selection of plays and the way they were put
together were absolutely perfect to create a joyful evening."
The above quotations were a few reviews from active Theater goers in the audience. Me and my colleague, Ivan Perez, initiated and organized the Playwright's Festival as a benefit to support the yearly Strong Kids Campaign at the West Side YMCA; a program that makes courses and classes accessible to the community through financial aid, scholarships, low and free programming. Play submissions from all over the Tri-State area were received and 9 plays of mixed genres, from comedy to drama, were selected to be performed on April 1st and 2nd 2009 in the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater. The participating actors and directors were both undiscovered talent and Broadway/TV stars. The Festival was a success!
